STEPHEN
BERGER
Odyssey Investment Partners
Stephen Berger is chairman of Odyssey Investment Partners. Odyssey
Partners is a private New York investment firm that specializes in
private corporate transactions.
Prior to joining Odyssey Partners, Berger was employed by GE Capital
from 1990 to 1993. He served as executive vice president, where he
was responsible for a portfolio of companies including the Corporate
Finance Group, Railcar Services, Transport International Pool, GE
Modular Space, and Financial Guaranty Insurance Company. In that position,
Berger was also responsible for establishing and growing GE Capital's
insurance annuity business. Previously, he was chairman and chief
executive officer of Financial Guaranty Insurance Company, a wholly
owned GE Capital company.
Berger served as executive director of the Port Authority of New York
and New Jersey from 1985 to 1990, and was responsible for directing
New York and New Jersey's airports, port facilities, interstate network
of tunnels, bridges and commuter trains, and real estate investments
including the World Trade Center. At the time he was appointed to
lead the Port Authority, Berger was a principal with Odyssey Partners
from 1983 to 1985. Prior to Odyssey Partners, Berger served as director
of corporate development at Oppenheimer & Co. Berger held an appointment
at the rank of Professor at the Graduate School of Public Administration
at New York University from 1977 to 1984.
Berger's public service activities include serving as executive director
of the New York Emergency Control Board for the City of New York,
and chairman of United States Railway Association.
Berger is chairman of the board of Tristar Aerospace and serves as
a director on the boards of Forstmann & Company, Hugoton Energy Resources,
the Scotsman Group, and Monarch Marketing Systems. He is presently
a trustee of Brandeis University.
Berger received a degree in history from Brandeis University, graduating
magna cum laude in 1959. He attended the University of Chicago from
1959 to 1960 on a fellowship to the department of political science.
Berger, his wife Cynthia, and their two daughters live in New York
City.
