Raymond James Financial

Thomas James is the chairman and chief executive officer of Raymond James Financial and chairman of Raymond James & Associates, one of the firm's three subsidiaries. The diversified financial service holding company was founded by his father in 1962. He joined the firm in 1966, and was named chief executive officer in 1969.

In addition to the positions he holds in affiliated firms, James is past member of the board of directors and past chairman, Board of the Securities Industry Association; past president, Florida Security Dealer's Association; and past chairman, District 7 Business Conduct Committee of the National Association of Securities Dealers. He has served on the Regional Firms Committee of the New York Stock Exchange and is a current member of its nominating committee.

James has served as a director of numerous public corporations and is currently chairman, Heritage Family of Mutual Funds, and serves on the board of directors for Arbor Health Care Corporation, World of Science, and IMCO Recycling.

He is a member of the board of the Florida Council on Economic Education and the Florida Council of 100. He is president of the board of trustees of the Salvadore Dali Museum. He has served on the board of directors of the United Way of Pinellas County, is a past chairman of that organization's Alexis de Tocqueville Society and was the 1995 Pinellas County Campaign chairman. He has served as a board member and as the vice-chairman of the board of trustees of Eckerd College. He is a past member of the board of Junior Achievement of Pinellas County.

He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard (BA 1964) and from Harvard Business School (1966) where he was a Baker Scholar and graduated with high distinction. James holds a JD degree from Stetson College of Law (1969) and is a Certified Financial Planner.
