NELL MINOW
The
Corporate Library
Nell Minow is editor of The Corporate Library, an Internet site that
compiles research, study, and critical thinking about the nature of
the modern global corporation, with a special emphasis on best practices
and standards.
Formerly, she was a principal of LENS, an $100 million investment
firm that buys stock in underperforming companies and uses shareholder
activism to increase their value. LENS companies have included Sears,
American Express, Kodak, and Waste Management.
She formerly was president of Institutional Shareholder Services,
Inc., a firm that advises institutional investors on issues of corporate
governance. Before that, she was employed at the Environmental Protection
Agency, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Department of
Justice.
She has appeared on CNN's Crossfire and Moneyline and
PBS' On the Issues, and written more than 100 articles as well
as chapters in treatises on executive compensation, annual shareholder
meetings, and in the books Law Stories and The Financial
Services Revolution. She is co-author with Robert A.G. Monks of
three books: Power and Accountability, (HarperBusiness 1991),
Corporate Governance (Blackwell 1995), and Watching the
Watchers: Corporate Governance for the 21st Century (Blackwell
1996).
She also writes about movies and television, with articles in Family
Fun, Parents, Slate, and Child magazines
and three editions of The Practical Guide to Practically Everything.
Her latest book, The Movie Mom's Guide to Family Movies, was
published in 1997 (Avon). She serves on the boards of WETA (educational
television and radio in the Nation's Capital) and Reading is Fundamental.
Minow is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and the University of
Chicago Law School.
