STEPHEN A. SCHWARZMAN

Stephen Schwarzman is president, chief executive officer, and co-founder of The Blackstone Group. Founded in 1985, the firm provides financial advisory services including mergers and acquisitions and restructuring advisory work.

Involved in all phases of the Blackstone's development since its founding, Schwarzman began his career at Lehman Brothers, where he was elected managing director in 1978. He was engaged principally in the firm's mergers and acquisitions business from 1977 to 1984, and served as chairman of the firm's mergers and acquisitions committee in 1983 and 1984.

A director of various companies, Schwarzman also is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is on the board of the New York City Ballet, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, and the Harvard Business School Visiting Committee.

Schwarzman holds a BA from Yale University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
